Exploring new ways to connect with guests can be exciting, but also a little unfamiliar at first. This FAQ guide brings together the most common questions we hear from church leaders—so you can see how VisitorTap works, how to use it, and how it can fit into your church experience.
VisitorTap uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to let people connect to your church’s digital content just by tapping their phone on a card, sticker, or stand. Each tap can open a custom link, form, or menu of resources—making it simple for guests to take next steps like filling out a connect card, signing up for events, or giving online.
VisitorTap is included with every VisitorReach Subscription (so no need for two services). VisitorReach subscription expands your tools to allow every tap to become a conversation. When someone taps a VisitorTap card, personalized follow-up and automated guest workflows instantly begin a text or email conversation on the VisitorReach app.
While VisitorTap is perfect for churches that want a simple way to connect guests to next steps using NFC-enabled cards, a VisitorReach subscription moves from engagement to outreach by including digital marketing services. Our team of marketing experts puts your church in front of the right people online in a way that looks, sounds, and feels like your church. Initiating conversations via text in the app that nurture seekers to the front door of your church.
If you’re ready to meaningfully engage with your community, VisitorReach is the upgrade that helps you reach, connect and assimilate people. Learn more about VisitorReach.
No! Your church can connect to any giving platform you prefer. VisitorTap easily integrates with any systems you have set-up for giving, assimilation, event registrations, or volunteer scheduling. If you ever decide to switch out services, simply update the link in your dashboard and you’re all set!
Absolutely. You can order cards for youth, kids, small groups, or any other ministry. You can purchase decks of 100 or individual table stands under your main account. Each deck can point to its own customized Taptree, giving you ministry-specific engagement with one unified system. It’s a great way to extend the tool across different teams while keeping everything streamlined.
All our tap products are chosen with excellence and durability in mind.
We recommend ordering a free sample pack in order to experience the colors and products in your local context.
We recommend using our tear-resistant vinyl rounds for chairs that get stacked. They’re thinner and more flexible, making them less likely to catch on other chairs compared to thicker acrylic options. The industrial-strength 3M adhesive is designed for long-lasting durability, but if your chairs are stacked often, you can always choose to add extra adhesive to provide a stronger grip.
Of course, life happens. There’s always a small chance one might get scuffed, pulled off, or—let’s be honest—yanked by a bored kid mid-sermon (we’ve all been there!). That’s why we encourage every church to keep a few extra on hand. If one ever gets damaged, it takes just seconds to peel and replace—quick, easy, and you’re back in business.
Do not attach cards directly to metal.
The NFC signal will be blocked when a card is in contact with metal. Tap cards can be adhered to any portion of the chair that is not metal. So chairs can have metal frames or metal arms, the NFC chip simply can not be in direct contact with it
Cards can be used on metal if the back is fully covered in Velcro.
Velcro acts as a buffer between the metal and the NFC signal. Partial coverage or thin double-sided tape won’t work consistently. We recommend using a 2-inch-wide Velcro strip running the full length of the tap card. In our testing, full Velcro coverage on the back of the card works reliably—but we strongly suggest testing your sample cards on your own chairs first. We’re happy to book a call to help you choose the best setup for your church.
Churches can order custom-branded VisitorTap products (minimum order of 500). You’ll use official templates to design your cards, and production takes about 8 weeks. To get started, select the Custom Print option at check-out and make your payment and we’ll email you a link to submit your order.
Taptree is a built-in feature of VisitorTap that lets you create a mobile-friendly menu of links—like a digital hub for your church. You can include anything from guest cards and giving apps to sermon notes, event sign-ups, and prayer forms.
Yes. You can create as many Taptrees as you want—for Sunday services, kids ministry, youth, outreach events, conferences, and more.
Yes. When you edit a Taptree, the updates automatically apply to every Tap Card linked to it—instantly. You don’t have to reprint or manually update anything.
It’s easy! You can manage your Tap Cards right from your VisitorReach dashboard, where each one is identified by a unique Tap ID printed on the product. You can link each card to either a single URL or a custom Taptree, and update those links anytime—even in real time during a service. Changes go live instantly, so your Tap Cards can always match what’s happening in the room.
The built-in Analytics feature shows how often each Tap Card is used, letting you track engagement by batch number or custom name so you can see what’s working across your campus.
Any Apple iPhone or Android phone made after 2018 has an NFC chip and can read Tap Cards. Some Android phones may need NFC turned on manually.
No, Tap Cards don’t require WiFi, cell service, or a live server to function. However, the phone will need cell service or wifi in order to get the link to load.
Each card uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, which is the same secure, contactless tech used in things like Apple Pay or tap-to-pay credit cards. That makes Tap incredibly reliable in any environment. It's simple, smart, and built to just work—every time.
No. Only official VisitorTap products work with the VisitorReach dashboard. All reputable NFC providers lock their cards to their own platforms as a security measure. Open or unlocked cards can be vulnerable to tampering or even hacking, which could allow someone to change the link without your knowledge. Using secure, locked cards protects your church and ensures every tap goes exactly where you want it to.
Every batch of VisitorTap products is printed with a batch number. You can label them by location (like “Sanctuary – Black Round” or “Lobby – White Round”) and track their location in your VisitorReach dashboard.
